Oregon Teahouse (236 Sq Ft)

Oregon Teahouse

This beautiful backyard guesthouse, dubbed the “Teahouse”, was designed and built by famous architect, Pietro Belluschi.

In the 1940’s, Belluschi was hired by a Portland-based doctor and his wife to construct a northwestern mid-century modern home. In the backyard of the property was an old garden shed that the couple wanted to keep, and so it was remodeled into a guesthouse with Japanese and Scandinavian inspired minimalism.

Fast-forward to 1973, Belluschi, who had considered the property one of his favorites, purchased the home for himself and lived there until his death in 1994. Over time, the Tea House fell into disrepair but was eventually saved by Belluschi’s son, Antony (Tony) Belluschi. He even won an award for its restoration in 2011.

Today the 236 sq ft Teahouse and the main house are both still owned and lived in by Anthony and his wife. It continues to serve as a guest house and is occasionally offered for tours to the public.
