Blakboxhaus (875 Sq Ft)

For fans of modernist home, you're going to love this DIY contemporary home in central Illinois!

Named the "Blakboxhaus" the home was designed by film producer Helga Richter. According to Curbed, she originally had wanted to have a company build her home for her but found that builders were charging an obscene premium for modern homes. Taking matters into her own hands, Helga, who had a background in design, drew up plans on AutoCAD, had a professional look them over, and set about building her own home.

The finished product is a stunning 875 sq ft steel-clad modernist home, nestled in the woods. Helga incorporated several "green" elements including bamboo flooring, spray-foam insulation, and a tankless water heater. In total, she spent less than $150,000 for everything including the home, the furniture, and art. Now that's impressive!
